Money + Meaning Podcast

Cathy Clark talks Emergency Funding Sources for Entrepreneurs on SOCAP's Money + Meaning Podcast, April 14 2020.

The Faculty Director of CASE at DUKE talks, her COVID-19 resource for entrepreneurs around the world.

“About a month ago, we asked ourselves at CASE, ‘what can we do really quickly to help entrepreneurs through this crisis?’ We had already seen some very significant businesses in our local area shut down in the first week and that scared me.”
“I have been completely blown away by the speed at which some of these entities, these government entities, have figured out how to offer cash relief fast.”       -Cathy Clark, Faculty Director of CASE at Duke

Realizing there was a need for a centralized database of emergency funding sources for entrepreneurs struggling during the current pandemic, Cathy Clark built and launched within 24 hours. Clark, the Faculty Director of Duke’s Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) is no stranger to building online resources for entrepreneurs. For the past 3 years, CASE has run an online training program for social entrepreneurs looking to raise impact investment called Smart Impact Capital. Building off of this experience, Clark built, a searchable website for entrepreneurs around the world, whether for-profit or non-profit, to find emergency grant and loan funding in their communities.

As of April 10, the site included over 420 regional, national, and global sources worth over $363 billion in relief funding.

For this episode, Cathy sits down with Alex to discuss the conception and creation of the site, the response times she is seeing for entrepreneurs in need of funding, and the role that impact investors can play during this crisis. Featured Voices
